The Lucia Kowaluk Foundation carries forward Lucia’s lifelong commitment to social justice, urban ecology, and community democracy.
We are building a community fund to finance citizen projects in Milton-Parc, funded and managed democratically by residents. Join us!
Giving meals to people experiencing hunger and supporting community care initiatives.
Saving green spaces and teaching about nature and urban ecology.
Creating opportunities for neighbours to gather, celebrate and build connections.
Teaching renters about their rights and supporting people facing housing insecurity.
We want to hear from you! Fill out this survey to help us design the best possible fund.
Milton-Parc has a rich network of community groups, helping people and improving society.
But our dependence on grants, which are difficult to obtain and unstable, limits our ability to act. Many of our community groups are running out of money and might disappear.
As with union dues, the Lucia Kowaluk Foundation wants to help these groups by raising money from the community and allowing residents themselves to democratically decide together what projects to support.
This past June 5, Lucia Kowaluk Park filled with a lively community spirit as we came together to celebrate World Environment Day with a free barbecue, an Indigenous art hive, three bands, an activist choir, speeches and an open mic!
Organized by the Lucia Kowaluk Foundation, the Milton Parc Citizens Committee and ECOLE with the support of :
Climate Justice Montreal, Le Vivant Se Défend, Black Rose Books, Montréal Arts Interculturels (MAI), Tlachiuak, the Milton Parc Art Hive, the Students’ Society of McGill University, the Concordia Students’ Union, the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough, and MNA Jennifer Maccarone.
